Many Texas residents are not aware that in 1997, Texas implemented a parent taught driver education program. Over the last few years, taking Texas driver education online or through a home school study program has become quite popular.
So what should you know about taking a home school (or parent taught) driver education course in Texas? You want to make sure the course is state and/or DMV certified. If the state doesn’t recognize the course or has not approved it, then it will not be valid in obtaining your Texas learner’s permit or drivers license. In Texas, driver education is a requirement if you want your drivers license before turning 18 years old.
Texas Drivers Ed
You can begin taking driver education in Texas at age 15. Some parents choose to enroll their teen in a traditional class. Texas has many remote areas across the state. Additionally, some parents (because of their work schedules) cannot adjust their schedule to get their teen to a school at the course times. Some parents would prefer to teach their teen the driving values they have developed over the years. In all of these scenarios, taking a state certified parent taught Texas driver education course makes perfect sense!
Once you’ve reached 16 years old, and have had your learners permit for at least six months, you can apply for your drivers license. One of the best courses on the market right now is the Texas Drivers Ed course. At $169.00, it includes everything you will need to successfully complete the course, receive your learners permit and ultimately your drivers license. The course is an interactive multimedia CD ROM that will guide you and your teen student through every phase. It even includes instructor guides for the parent to print-off for “behind the wheel” exercises. So thorough, it will even tell you everything you need to take to your local DMV and help your organize everything the DMV will want to see. The Texas driver education course is state/dmv certified as program course #107 by the Texas Department of Public Safety.
Good luck with your driver education instruction and be safe!
